Bridge Styles

Two bridge styles have been prepared for review based on project requirements and public feedback.  As you study the two options, consider the following objectives:

1.  As redevelopment around the bridge occurs, there is the potential for it to be visually obscured. But because its role is so important, its form should not recede into the background, but be distinctive and highly visible without overwhelming its context.

2. The bridge should be seen by the public not merely as a corridor to be used to get between multiple points, but as a unique and exhilarating experience in itself.

3. As a distinct piece of architectural engineering, the bridge should energize its surroundings with a new image and value.

The drawings below give you an idea of how the bridge will look from a distance.  Go to the YouTube video to experience walking on the bridge.

Then be sure to complete the survey so we know how you feel about it.

Arch Style is shown from different views below.

This view is looking south from the Riverpoint Campus.  You can see  Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. (under construction now)  shown under the bridge, along with some sort of future mass transit.

The view below is looking north from what will be the improved South University District.  The dark road (Riverside) is currently gravel, it will be paved as part of this project.  The path from the bridge connects to Sherman Ave. that will be improved as a pedestrian / bicycle friendly road.
